A change in the temperature affects the dimensions of the measuring machine leading to measurement errors. This book concentrates on the modeling, design, control and validation of the air shower; an enclosure to maintain the temperature at 20 ± 0.1ºC. On comparing the air shower with the previous model, design changes were implemented to the air intake duct, temperature and humidity sensor, and
the radiator. This improved the thermal response thereby decreasing the amplitude of the temperature ripple from 0.3ºC to 0.013ºC and increasing the frequency from 12 to 4 minutes. The implementation of an advanced controller with a new control design and performing system identification helped in observing the temperature variation, conduct different tests and analyze the results. The new controller indicated that (1) the thermal response of the air shower is first order (2) the gain and phase increase with increasing time, but the delay does not show any pattern and (3) the optimum performance of the control of temperature is achieved when the proportional valve controlling the flow of cooling water through the radiator is dithered sinusoidally.
