In 1941, Adolf Hitler didn't declare war on the United States. Now, in 1985, the Third Reich, stretching from the coast of France to the icy wastes of Eastern Russia, appears supremely powerful. With a powerful force of nuclear warheads and the finest military machine on earth, there is no hope for freedom for the billions who groan under its rule. Adolf Hitler's mad dreams have come to pass.
And yet, all is not well in the Reich. The Cold War with the United States and the North Atlantic Alliance is destroying the Reich's economy while a savage insurgency in South Africa - a war the Reich cannot win and dares not lose - is sapping its military strength. And, while the Reich Council struggles to find a way to save the Reich from its own weaknesses, a young German girl makes a discovery that will shake the Reich to its core.
But the Reich Council will not go quietly into the night.

Well written and interesting and Nuttall did his homework on the Nazi political and, more importantly, social structure. I enjoyed the book and will purchase the follow-on. I did think it was a stretch that an 18 year-old girl would become a major player in the provincial government. I cannot understand what one reviewer said about the characters being 'are all obsessed with sex.' I totally disagree. They were fine, in fact, real in thoughts and deeds.Product details

Storm Front Twilight of the Gods Book 1 (Audible Audio Edition) Christopher G Nuttall Corey Gagne Audible Studios Books Reviews
Good read, a little dark and suspenseful.
What if Hitler did not join Japan to fight USA, and did not lose the war? How would the Hitler youth turn out, what would the core society be like?
This is an interesting look into that.
Yes, the young people in this story think about sex often. Many people do, and the age of the people lends to this. It did not seem excessive to me, some reviews made me expect it to be more than it was. I am happy this aspect did not go too far.
Germany won WW II by not declaring war to USA,and it is now governing most of Europe, Russia, middle est and some part of Africa. German colons are traying to settle in the vast wildness of the russian plains, besieged by continuous insurgents. This is Germany East.
UK made an uneasy truce with Hitler and is living waiting for another confrontation.
In this scenario, Gudrun, the daughter of a policeman, discovers some of the lies the government is telling Germany about the state of the war in South Africa, in support of the apartheid regime. She discovers that the number of killed and wounded are not reported sincerely in Germany and she starts to rebel. This causes a snowball effect, which is quite interesting to read.
Whilst not at the level of Harry Turtledove novels ( which are usually muco more complicated), the book and its sequels (yeti to be seen, but I am waiting for them) con be read very quickly and are quite catching. There is a nod to Mr. Turtledove, as an omonym is the ambassador of the USA in Germany, quite a nice touch. Reccomended as a nice read.
A truly interesting and fascinating book with what may be a reflection on today's society as well as a fictional story about WWII and the years after. It was skillfully written in such a way that you came to know each main character and felt their trials and anguish as they strive for their goals. The more I read the more I wanted to read and the more I kept seeing our world today being reflected in so many ways.
True it is an alternate history and takes a little adjustment to comprehend the world as it exists in the story, but it is not any kind of weird world war story.
I enjoyed it very much and am no looking forward ot the third installment which should bring it to a conclusion.
This was an excellent series of alternative historical fiction! The characters were very well developed and the depictions we're too real to be comfortable! It REALLY gave one the feeling of what it would be like to live in a modern Third Reich which was never defeated!
The scope of Nuttall's narration was comprehensive and realistic. I highly recommend this series for those who romanticize the Nazi Reich and seek to revise it in today's modern world. A good dose of this narrative account would certainly make them think twice.
Great reading!
I have read quite a few alternate history books and since I have been reading and enjoying Mr Nuttall's Ark Royal series. This book intrigued me when I researched it since the United States did not lose to the Reich but has assumed the role of the Reich opponent on the other side of a different Iron Curtain.
I liked the book and I hope we see a few more books since much of the story is left unfinished and I suspect, is n material for other books. The premise of this book is very believable since an empire like the Reich, assuming it grew to the size in the book, is ripe for corruption. Throughout history, most great empires collapse from their own bureaucracy eventually.
The alternate history review at the end was helpful in understanding what happened in WWII. I just wish we could see a bit more of what is happening outside the Reich. A good read
I have read several of Christopher Nuttall's books and this is the best so far, and much better. I read it as fast as I could and look forward to reading the followup.
In the story we are 40 years into the triumph of the Third Reich. Russia up to the Urals is a vast slave plantation colonized by good Nazis and run by the SS. The Arabs between Suez and Iran have been exterminated and replaced with Germans. The former Belgian Congo and German Southwest Africa suffer under the racist Nazis. But all is not happy in Nazi land.
As we know, slave economies are not efficient. In the 1980s the wheels are coming off the ramshackle Nazi state. We meet a young girl in Berlin and struggle with her as she tries to find out what happened to her soldier boy friend. His letters from the brutal brush war in South Africa have stopped coming and she wants to know why.
This well imagined possible outcome of WWII move quickly. It always seems reasonable as the action unfolds. I liked it well enough to want to continue the story. I was disappointed when the book was over, a good sign.
Well written and interesting and Nuttall did his homework on the Nazi political and, more importantly, social structure. I enjoyed the book and will purchase the follow-on. I did think it was a stretch that an 18 year-old girl would become a major player in the provincial government.
